Derek Hutchinson

At 22 years old, Derek is a graduate from Ball State University with a degree in Music Media Production and a focus in classical guitar. Beginning on the electric guitar when he was 10 years old, he was raised through the genres of rock, metal, and alternative music. His passion to sing broke through very early in his life also, and he has become an expert in the coordination of playing guitar and singing. He now plays many different styles varying in blues, funk, alternative, rock, classical, acoustic, and many more. His easy-going personality makes him a wonderful, patient teacher who strives to teach his students something new every week.

Paul Rhine

Paul Rhine has performed for over 40 years. His first instrument was guitar, but eventually moved to double bass and electric bass. He also began playing piano in his late teens and during his stint in the United States Marine Corps began playing trombone, saxophones and flute. Rhine was a fixture of the Indianapolis jazz scene in the '80s and 90s performing with local jazz luminaries such as saxophonists Jimmy Coe (who replaced Charlie Parker in Jay McShann's big band), Alonzo "Pookie" Johnson and David Young (who recorded with pianist/arranger George Russell and also with the Ellington/Mercer big band), pianist/vibraphonist Buddy Montgomery (brother of guitarist Wes), trumpeter Al Kiger (another George Russell Alumni), drummer Jack Gilfoy (who recorded and toured with Henry Mancini), pianist Ken Fary, Steve Allee and Claude Sifferlen and trombonist J.J. Johnson's son, drummer Kevin Johnson, among many others.

Rhine also performed guitar, saxophones, flute and trombone in many big bands and concert bands in the area. He also has performed double bass with many orchestras and big bands.

Rhine and Pianist Dr. Phil Cooley were part of the local jazz combo Live Jazz Tonight with drummer Charlie Owen, a former Yorktown teacher and track coach. Having lived in Muncie since 1999, Rhine still performs and teaches and hopes to keep the music fires lit for many years to come.
